CAL CUISINE

Ok, I've had Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Greek, Mexican and Californian food since I arrived in LA.  Yet I think I am still loosing weight (which is a rarity for a lengthy road trip).

Why - great, fresh, natural ingredients and no hotel buffets for breakfast.

I do have one new weakness: Mini Mesquite Kobe Beef Burgers served at the Salt Creek Grille.  These are my downfall if I eat alone and don't share.

OK enough obsessing over food - time for a walk on The Strand.

Sunny and 75 - day after day after day . . .

Pier Avenue in Hermosa Beach with the Lighthouse still alive and kicking

Well, this is a personal worst in terms of Blog updates.  Here it is August 23rd and this is my first post of the month!  I've been in the Los Angeles area for over two weeks.  I'm staying at a Residence Inn in Manhattan Beach, and needless to say my schedule has been stretched.  Days sometime begin at 4:30 AM and end at 7:00 PM.

Although there are countless great eating options here in the South Bay, I chose to stay at a place where I can cook breakfast and dinner, on those rare nights where I do not feel obligated to eat out with coworkers or my Italian partners whom I am working with here.  Don't get me wrong; those are fun evenings, but the goal is to return home weighting less than when I arrived.

The Whole Foods Market is a treat every time that I visit, yet dinners at such places as Il Fornaio and Rock'n Fish make the healthy option of cooking in a challenge.  Aside from the great coastal weather, California has the best food anywhere in the country.

The South Bay has changed little from my days in the 1980's prior to my adventures in Central California with Donny Laing.  Of course properties values have skyrocketed and crime has just gotten uglier.  My commute to the supplier that I am working with was detoured last week due to a drive-by shooting.  Yet in the affluence west of Sepulveda Blvd. all is relatively safe, and I take a nightly sunset walk to the beach.

I hope to get home to Piney Point for the Labor Day weekend, but it appears Manhattan Beach will be my new home for much of the rest of the year.  I miss Japan, Korea and Europe a bit, but this is not bad place to finish off the year!
